and other modes of snow travel. How to deal with different winter emergencies such 

as frostbite, avalanches, blizzards, snow blindness, ice accidents, and much more. 

Primitive birch-bark canoeing and other water travel is discussed. Also, techniques 

on how to care for a birch-bark canoe are covered such as using pine pitch to repair your 

canoe, finding leaks, repairing paddles, and other useful information. 

All of these skills and methods unless stated otherwise by the author have 

been field tested over a 50+ period of time with success while on both modern and 

traditional treks into the wilderness.
